I don't drink alcohol. Will I still like the flavor? And will using this product add wine/alcohol to my food?
Food prepared with Wine'd Up in Smoke doesn't actually end up tasting anything like wine. People are often surprised to hear that, since it seems natural that we'd be adding wine grapevine in order to get wine flavor. Yet that's not why we do it. Adding grapevine to our blends is all about enhancing and balancing flavors. There's a few ways that grapevine does this:
- Truly memorable food has many different layers of flavor. The subtle sweetness of grapevine helps ensure a depth of flavor when paired with grilled and smoked foods. The grapevine doesn’t make it sweet or make it taste like wine at all. Its role is to add that unexpected, unparalleled layer of flavor that makes that steak, chicken, fish, or whatever you’re grilling the best you’ve ever tasted.
- The sweetness of the grapevine balances out the smokiness. That unique smoky taste you get when you grill or smoke something is enhanced by the balancing impact of the subtle sweetness from the grapevine.
Additionally, our products contain no alcohol. The grapevine that is mixed into our blends is there to add flavor, not alcohol. This is because we don't use the grapes of the vine, which is the part that is fermented and distilled into wine (alcohol). We use the canes that the grapes grow on. If you do not drink alcohol, you can use our products with confidence, knowing you are adding amazing flavor to whatever you are grilling or smoking, without adding any alcohol.
Do I need to marinate what I am cooking first before grilling/smoking it?
You don't have to. The Wine'd Up in Smoke blends will infuse whatever you are grilling or smoking with delicious flavor all on their own.
However, for maximum flavor, we nearly always marinade what we are grilling/smoking in:
- salt
- pepper
- olive oil
- garlic
We call this simple marinade "s.p.o.g." for short, and it's how we prep nearly everything before grilling or smoking with one of our blends. And, there's one last step:
- marinade in the fridge overnight (but in a pinch, an hour or so will do)

What ingredients are in your blends? Are there any harmful chemicals or additives?
All of our blends are made with just two natural raw ingredients:
- the vine ("canes") that is left over after the vineyards have harvested the grapes
- the wood OR the spice/herb that the blend is named after (for example, rosemary in our Grapevine & Rosemary blend, cedar in our Grapevine & Cedar blend, hickory in our Grapevine & Hickory blend, or a special mix of Italian herbs in our Grapevine & Italian blend).
That’s it. No additives, chemicals or preservatives. We don't use flavored oil. It's just those raw natural products.
