On day 49, Jac wanted cheeseburgers but I wanted pizza. Our conversation moved onto something else and we never really settled the question. I went off to work on something else and next thing I knew, Jac was telling me dinner was ready...and I walked in to see a large, beautiful bacon cheeseburger pizza, with leftover hamburger meat that we smoked back on day 42. I cracked up. Jac is such a creative chef!
I had never had a bacon cheeseburger pizza. As the name implies, it combines the best of two classic favorites: all the juicy flavors of a cheeseburger with all the cheesy, crusty goodness of pizza. It was really actually quite delicious!
To make a delicious bacon cheeseburger pizza yourself:
- Start with a thick crust pizza! Cheeseburgers are made with a nice thick bun, so you want to replicate that in your cheeseburger pizza.
- Spread on regular pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese, as you normally would.
- Top with all the components of a delicious, juicy bacon cheeseburger -- just chopped up into small pieces. Here you see the ingredients we used -- bacon, cheese, onions, pickles, tomatoes, and delicious hamburger patties that we grilled on day 42 in our Grapevine & Hickory blend for grills.
- Bake as you would a regular pizza
- Once out of the oven, drizzle Thousand Island dressing over the top. Don't skip the Thousand Island dressing drizzle. It REALLY gives the pizza that cheeseburger flavor!
Chef's Tip: If you don't have Thousand Island dressing on hand, don't skip this step. It's really easy to make with just onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and garlic. (There's lots of exact recipes for Thousand Island dressing online).
Look at that delicious thick crust and juicy cheeseburger toppings! And this fun bacon cheeseburger pizza was filling! We got dinner for two from this pizza PLUS lunches for two for two more days. Yummmmm!
