DAY 28: Tri-Tip Appetizers (with leftover tri-tip from Day 26)

On Day 28, we were having a game night and needed a finger food for dinner, so Jac came up with the perfect solution -- Tri-Tip Appetizers with leftover tri-tip smoked with our Grapevine & Applewood Blend.  

Making the canapes required just three steps:

  1. we sliced the meat thinly against the grain
  2. we then added different toppings like avocado, cheeses, tomatoes, capers...anything we find delicious AND had on hand
  3. last, we rolled them up and kept them closed with toothpicks

Chef's Tip: Making canapés with food you have on hand is a creative way to turn simple ingredients into delightful appetizers without a special trip to the store. Start by choosing a base, like crackers, sliced baguette, or even cucumber rounds, and then layer on items you have available, such as leftover cheese, meats, or spreads. You can add a touch of freshness with herbs, pickles, or sliced veggies, and a drizzle of honey or balsamic glaze if you have it for extra flavor. This approach not only reduces food waste but also lets you experiment with new flavor combinations. The more you experiment here, the better you will get at creating colorful, tasty one bite morsels with the ingredients that you have on hand at the time.

We served them with some homemade carrot soup.  (It was kind of a use-the-leftovers night.)
